Use Apple Cider Vinegar for Acne

Acne can be embarrassing. It can be very noticeable and sometimes even painful. Oftentimes, over-the-counter creams and medicines and prescriptions can be too harsh and end up costing a lot of money. Its my belief that simple is better and there is nothing more simple than using cider vinegar to help clear up pesky pimples. You can find cider vinegar (also called apple cider vinegar) in your local grocery store, usually near the pickles, mustards and other condiments.
Here are some steps in using cider vinegar to treat acne.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Understand what it is doing. Cider vinegar contains alpha-hydroxy acids. It helps eliminate fatty deposits on the skin and helps with reducing scaliness. It helps regulates the pH balance of the skin. This in turn results in softer and smoother skin.

  2. Step 2

Make your acne treatment solution. Plain cider vinegar can be harsh on the skin. So the best thing to do is to dilute it in some water. A good rule of thumb is one part cider vinegar to 8 parts water. This would equate to 1 Tbs of cider vinegar to 1 cup of water. Store in a glass container with a lid. If you like, you can grind up a couple of aspirin and add to this solution. Aspirin contains saliclic acid which can help with drying up acne.

  3. Step 3

Use cider vinegar as a spot treatment. You can use cider vinegar as a spot treatment for blemishes and pimples; dunk a cotton ball in your cider vinegar solution that you made ahead of time. Blot it directly on any blemishes, pimples or zits you currently have.

  4. Step 4

You can also use your cider vinegar solution as a skin toner. Wash your face as normal and then splash the solution on your face in place of your regular toner.

  5. Step 5

Drink the vinegar as a detox drink. This will help cleanse you out from the inside. Being healthy all the way around will promote better clearer skin. Mix 2 Tbs of cider vinegar in 1 cup of water. Sweeten with honey if desired. Drink.

Tips & Warnings
  • The smell can be unappealing to some. You may want to apply before going to bed and then wash off in the morning.
  • It is possible to apply full strength to your skin, but if you have sensitive skin, do not do this as it might irritate your skin. Try a small spot first if you want to try it full strength.
