Garlic bread is a favorite for young and old. While it can be as easy as putting store-bought frozen garlic bread in the oven, making a homemade bread with fresh garlic can turn an ordinary side of bread into an extraordinary classic.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 Loaf of fresh Italian bread
  • 1 Garlic Bulb, roasted
  • 3 Tablespoons of butter or margarine, softened, but not melted
  • 1/3 Cup of parmesan cheese
  • Dash of Italian spice mix or parsley and basil
  1. Step 1

Start by roasting garlic in a toaster oven or in the oven until the cloves are soft and the papery skin is slightly browned (about 20 minutes). See the link in the Resources Section below to learn exactly how to make roasted garlic.

  2. Step 2

While the garlic is roasting prepare the bread by slicing the loaf of Italian bread in half. You'll want to cut across length-wise so the top and bottom of the bread are two separate pieces.

  3. Step 3

To the make the topping for your garlic bread, squeeze the cloves out of the bulb and into a food processor or blender. Use a fork to get any cloves that don't easily fall out. Be careful not to get any of the papery skin in the food processor.

  4. Step 4

Cut the butter into smaller pieces and add it to the food processor with the roasted garlic.

  5. Step 5

Add the cheese and spices to the food processor and blend until the mixture forms into a paste.

  6. Step 6

Spread the butter and garlic mixture evenly over both pieces of bread.

  7. Step 7

Broil the garlic bread in the oven for 5 minutes or until golden brown. You can also cook in a toaster oven on 450 until golden brown.

  8. Step 8

Slice into 2 inch pieces. Enjoy this yummy homemade garlic bread.

Tips & Warnings
  • This goes great with pasta.
  • If you have a large loaf of bread you can cut it in half and freeze part of it for another time.
  • If you like the taste of garlic a lot, don't chop the mixture up as much in the food processor. This will leave some of the garlic cloves intact.
