Things You'll Need:
- utility knife
- tape measure
- square
- staple gun
-
Step 1
Measure your room where you want to place your new ceiling tiles. This will give you the overall square feet.
-
Step 2
Now decide what kind of ceiling you want. To maximize your head space, do not use a suspended or drop-ceiling design. Most armstrong tiles now are similar to tongue and groove and are installed with a staple gun or glue. Staples work best.
-
Step 3
Theoretically you are to install furring strips at every 12 or 16 inches depending on width of tile you purchased.
-
Step 4
If you have mostly level joist in your basement, it is ok to install directly on them. Start off by stringing out a triangle that is 3' x 4' x 5' Chalk the 3 and 4 feet lines. This will give you your square. Place the first board down with the fat flat edge facing you. Simply staple this down. Continue down the row and cut tot length the final piece. Now take your left over piece and start your next row. Continue until you are finished.
-
Step 5
It is a very simple process. You can be done in one weekend. Add some crown molding when you are done for a professional looking ceiling.
