A Finished Candy Wreath

It really is easy to make a candy wreath and they make a great gift or can be raffled off for charity! The supplies for this wreath cost me under $12.00.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 4-6 lbs of hard, wrapped candy
  • 1 wire wreath form
  • Curling Ribbon
  • Scissors
  • A bow
  1. Step 1

Doing a little prep time will make the wreath tying a bit easier.

  2. Step 2
Tying the ribbon to the candy
Tying the ribbon to the candy

If you are making a wreath with different kinds or colors of candy, it makes it easier to separate out the colors into bowls or piles first.

Just make sure the candy you choose to use has at least one end that you can tie a ribbon to.

  3. Step 3

Cut a couple of lengths of curling ribbon about 6" in length to start with so you can tie a couple of pieces of candy to the wreath form to see if you may need to adjust up or down in length as needed for easier tying for you.

Simply tie a loop around one end of the candy and pull tight (Just don't tie it into a knot, you want to be able to pull the candy free with a tug after it is tied to the wreath form.)

  4. Step 4

If you have tested the tying process and are ready to begin, cut a pile of pieces of ribbon to a comfortable length for you, and then simply tie a piece of ribbon to one end of each piece of candy until you have a nice big pile to start with.

  5. Step 5

If doing a pattern with different colors of candy you might find it easier to lay out a pattern by your form before you start. For this wreath I simply placed a few different colors at intervals around the wreath form.

  6. Step 6

When you begin to tie your candy to the wreath, tie them tight as you can to the wire and cut off the excess ribbon or leave the ends to curl later (though I found they tend to get in the way if you have too many pieces of ribbon sticking out between the candies)

You should be able to slide the ribbon across the wire to tighten the candies into a tight pack, turning and twisting as necessary to make them fit tight.

  7. Step 7

I tied my Decorating Bow to the wire frame on the top side after fixing a few pieces of candy on either side of where I wanted my bow to be and then continued to tie the candy around it. (this made it a bit easier to tie the bigger bow before all the candy was in place)

  8. Step 8

Simply work your way around the wreath, packing the candy in as tight and full as you want and keep cutting off the excess ribbon pieces as you go.

  9. Step 9

Though it is a simple and easy project to do, it still takes a few hours to get all the candy tied on if you use a large frame like I did here, (I used about 5 pounds of candy for this wreath).

Tips & Warnings
  • Just be careful not to tie the end of another piece of candy into the piece you are currently tying.
  • It also help to set your wreath someplace you don't have to move it from until it is completed to eliminate pieces of candy being accidentally pulled off when you move it around.
  • I used white ribbon to help blend in with the color of the candy.
  • You can tie a strong piece of wire to the back of the form if you think you need it, though with the form I used here I found that it hung nicely on both a door wreath hanger and a strong nail on the wall and it sit flat against the wall and was sturdy when the candy was given a tug to pull a piece free.
