Having a pay as you go phone is convenient in that you don’t have to worry about a monthly bill, but what do you do when you buy a new TracFone and still have talk units on the old phone? You don’t have to lose your old units. You can transfer them. Here’s how.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    TracFone

Charge your old and new TracFone before you begin the process.

  2. Step 2

Get your TracFone’s serial number. You can find your phone’s serial number by removing the battery and reading the extremely small numbers on the phone. It might be best to have a magnifying glass handy just in case. If you can’t read the numbers there, you can use the phone’s menu option to locate the serial number. If you’re not sure exactly how to navigate the phone’s software, visit the TracFone site for more information.

  3. Step 3

Call TracFone (1-800-86-7183) once your cell phones are charged and you have the serial numbers for both phones. Unfortunately, this cannot be done via the internet.

  4. Step 4

Input the numbers as instructed by the TracFone customer service representative. He will give you what seems like a never-ending series of numbers, which serve to transfer the units from your old cell phone to your new cell phone.

  5. Step 5

Make sure the units are gone from your old TracFone.

  6. Step 6

Check to see that the units have been transferred to your new TracFone. Once everything is confirmed, you can use your old units on your new pay as you go TracFone.
