How to Request IRS Form 1098-E to Report College Loan Interest

College students with outstanding loan student loans need to request IRS form 1098-E to report the amount of interest paid on the loan during a tax year. In order to get form IRS 1098-E you must request it from the government. Unfortunately, the form cannot be downloaded.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Visit www.irs.gov (the Internal Revenue Website) and access the Online Ordering for Information Returns and Employer Returns page. The quickest way to access the page is to insert the page title in the search box located on the upper right hand corner of the web page.

  2. Step 2

    Scroll down the order page until you find Form 1098-E.

  3. Step 3

    Decide which tax year you need the form for.

  4. Step 4

    Determine the number of forms you need. Enter the form quantity and click the “Add to Cart” button.

  5. Step 5

    Confirm that you have ordered the right form and then click “Checkout.” If you want to add any additional forms or remove this form and add an additional form, now is the time to do it.

  6. Step 6

    Enter your mailing information and click “Confirm” to order your Form 1098-E

  7. Step 7

    Call the Internal Revenue Service if you have any questions or prefer to order Form 1098-E by phone. The phone number is 1-800-TAX-FORM.
