Step 1
When your car starts having trouble, immediately turn on your hazards. A freeway breakdown could by as simple as a tire blow out or your car dies, but you need to let those drivers around you to slow down immediately.
-
Step 2
Start maneuvering your car to the side of the road. Preferably the right side of the road, but if you can only go left, then go left. Just try to avoid to be staying in the middle lanes as that will cause a serious problem.
-
Step 3
Use your cell to call for help immediately. You may want to call the police as well to let them know you are stuck on the freeway and need help. Do this especially if you are blocking any lanes or feel worried for your safety.
-
Step 4
Don't get out of your car until it is safe. If you are stuck on the freeway, it doesn't mean people will slow down. Don't get out of the vehicle unless you are positive it is safe to leave it. Traffic whizzing by could easily hurt you if they doesn't see your situation.
-
Step 5
If you are having car trouble and want to flag down a nearby driver, consider putting up your hood to attract attention. Usually tow trucks will immediately stop and so will good Samaritans.
