Make Bath Bombs

Why not make great gifts for the holidays instead of spending money that you don't have. Here's a great gift idea for anyone that needs some relaxation. It's simple, easy, fun and cheap.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 tablespoons of citric acid or lemon juice
  • 2 tables spoons of cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup of baking soda
  • 3-4 drops of food coloring
  • 2-3 drops of fragrence oil
  1. Step 1

Along with your ingredients, you'll need a medium size bowl for mixing and a spoon. You'll also need a sheet of wax or aluminum foil and a baking sheet. The fragrance oils can be found at your local craft store in a variety of scents. Choose chamomile and lavendar for a calming affect. Or add some lemon, peppermint, and grapefuit to awaken the senses.

  2. Step 2

Start by combining the citric acid or lemon juice, food coloring, and fragrance oils in the bowl. The amount of food coloring and fragrance you put in now dictates the intensity of the smell and color. For darker colors, try adding your desired color along with a few drops of black.

  3. Step 3

Then add the cornstarch and baking soda. The soda creates a chemical reaction making fizz and bubbles. Don't worry it's not going to explode.

  4. Step 4

Begin mixing all the ingredients together working around the bowl from the outside in. Make sure you get the coloring evenly distributed. This mixture will make a dry dough, which you will then form into any shape you desire. Cookie cutters can be used to create different shapes, however, the standard bath bomb is in the shape of a ball.

  5. Step 5

After creating your shapes or balls, place them on the cookie sheet on top of the foil or wax paper. Allow the bombs to sit in a warm dry place for at least 24-48 hours before packaging them as gifts.

  6. Step 6

If you make the bombs in the shape of a ball, the possibilities for presentation are boundless. My favorite ideas are to put them in cup cake paper molds or you can purchase some cellophane and wrap them like candies. Have fun with it, it's a personal gift from you!

Tips & Warnings
  • If your mixture looks wet after mixing, either add a dash more of cornstarch and baking soda. If left alone, the balls will not form and they will turn into bath puddles.
  • This can get messy because the mixture can crumble if too dry.
  • Not recommended for children younger then three years of age.
