1. Decide on your pain threshold as one of the elements for a tattoo. If you put a tattoo on soft tissue skin on the body, it is far more painful than other places. The tattoo artist will tell you the neck and ankle areas are the most delicate and painful for placement.

2. How badly do you want others to see your tattoo? If you put it in an obvious place, then everyone will take a look. However, there are a few 'secret spots' that you can hide a tattoo and the only one who will ever know will be your significant other. If you want people to have an eye full, consider the lower arm area.
