Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Chances are if this is your first time getting married, you've never had to hire a DJ or book entertainment for an event. In fact, I'm sure this very well may be the first time that you have planned a wedding as well. Choosing the right DJ/Entertainment for your event, believe it or not, could make or break your reception. It's not just music, your DJ is responsible for so much more at the event.

As you begin your quest for the right DJ fit, write down all of the questions you would like answered regarding your entertainment. MAKE SURE YOU ASK LOTS OF QUESTIONS.

  2. Step 2

Decide what style you want for your reception, and then research companies on the internet that you think MIGHT be a good match for you. There are several great hubs on the web that serve as DJ directories, type it into the search and you will find a plethora of companies that can be narrowed down to location.

  3. Step 3

Once you have narrowed your list, call them on the phone and set up a meeting with them BEFORE signing a contract or making a decision. You will want to check out their personality, style, appearance etc. This is also where you should ask as many questions as you can regarding the services that they provide.

  4. Step 4

Check their References. Make sure you ask for references, also make sure you get references from the DJ that will be working your event.

  5. Step 5

Book the event, and pay your deposit to the DJ company that you have selected after meeting with them.

Tips & Warnings
  • Create a 3 ring binder with wedding vendor information, it will help you stay organized.
  • Create a unique email address that is personalized to your wedding. You will be requesting plenty of information, and you won't want to clog up your home or work email, and you can keep everything wedding related in one place.
  • If a DJ/Entertainment Company refuses to meet with you or wants to charge you to meet face to face before signing a contract, this is a red flag.
