How to Shutdown Another Computer From Yours

If your user account on your computer has been granted administrative or guest shutdown access to another computer on your network, you can use a built-in command on your computer to shut down the other computer from your computer. This process is useful if you need to perform the shutdown because you are physically unable to reach the other computer, or if you need to restart it to apply updates.

Things You'll Need

• Two Computers that both run on Windows or Vista.

Instructions

1. Click the "Start" button.

2. Type "cmd," and press "Enter" to open the command prompt.

3. Type "shutdown -s -m -t 00 \\name_of_computer" in the command prompt, with "name_of_computer" being the local network name of the computer that you want to shut down.

4. Press "Enter" to perform the remote shutdown procedure.
