Things You'll Need:
- Long hair
- Rubber band
- Shears/Scissors
- Curling/Flat iron
- Mirror
-
Step 1
Take long dry hair and pull it up into a ponytail. Be sure to grab and smooth all hair. Secure hair into a ponytail on the very top of the head. Once secured, comb thru the ends to remove any tangles.
-
Step 2
Determine how much hair to remove then hold the end of the ponytail straight into the air. Cut straight across. Comb thru the ends again and hold it straight into the air to check for any length you may have missed. Follow the line you just previously cut as a guide.
-
Step 3
Remove rubber band from the hair and let the hair fall. Comb thru and use a flat iron or a curling iron to style. To get the look in the picture of this guide, use a flat iron or a big curling iron and curl the hair under. Then use a wide toothed comb and comb the hair straight back. Use the tail of a tail comb to direct the hair(layers) where you want them. TIP: spray the hair with holding spray before directing the layers with the tail of the comb.
-
Step 4
KEEP IN MIND that if you cut straight across close to the end of the ponytail you will end up with what we call LONG LAYERS. Meaning that the layers will only be concentrated at or near the ends of the hair and the interior of the hair will be untouched. If you cut closer to the rubber band, you will end up with more layering in the interior.
