Time to Make a Helpful New Years Resolution

There are the typical New Year's resolutions made each year such as quite smoking, lose weight, or eat healthier. Try something different this year. Take the focus off of you and resolve to help others, keep our environment healthy, and even keep your pets healthy and safe. Here are some ideas to make a resolution to help others.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

New Years Resolution * Maintain Your Neighbors Yard - Locate one or more homes occupied by senior citizens. Ask permission to shovel their walks and driveway during the winter, fertilize and mow their grass throughout the summer, and rake the leaves in the fall. It may sound like a lot but you are doing it in your yard, one more won't take that long. You will become their adopted child in no time flat.

  2. Step 2

Resolution For New Years * Donate items monthly to local food shelf - There is an ongoing need to feed the families in your community. Food shelves provide food to hundreds of people every month. When they realize that they can count on you for $50 - $100's worth of non-perishable food their gratitude will be all you need to know that your new years resolution was a good one.

  3. Step 3

Make A New Year's Resolution * Send One Greeting Card Every Week - For most of us identifying 52 individuals to send either a card through the mail or an e-card via. the Internet is not hard. Think of everyone in your life from those you work with, service providers such as the Postal Carrier, members of your church, and your family. It is always nice to get something in the mail besides bills and you will put a smile on their faces. You will probably get a call, also.

  4. Step 4

Eco-Resolution * Park Your Car - Take one day each month to park your car and take mass transit to work. You can tuck your bottle-necked commute away and help protect the environment at the same time. Less gas used, less emissions released, and less road rage.

  5. Step 5

Resolve To Take Good Care Of Your Pet * When you have a pet you have made a commitment to take care of it's needs. Just like humans they need to have a nutritious diet, get checkups and shots, get plenty of exercise, make sure they are properly groomed and keep them safe. Whichever of these needs more of your attention, make a new year's resolution to take good care of your pet.

Tips & Warnings
  • New Year's resolutions are made as a tradition of the new year but should be kept throughout the year. When you take the focus off yourself and look around you it will become obvious who you could assist and resolve to help others.
