If you live in the dorms, chances are that at some point in your four years, you will have a bad roommate. Here's how to deal!

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Patience
  • A box of some sort that can be locked
  1. Step 1

If you realize right away that your roommate situation is not going to work out, go to the department of housing on campus and request a move. It can take a few weeks, but normally if you put in a request to move it will be honored.

  2. Step 2

Until you move, or if you can't move, talk to him about the problems. If he's always coming in late and being loud and waking you up, you need to address it. If she constantly has friends over when you are trying to study, try to agree on some rules about having company. If he eats all your food, start keeping your food in a duffel bag that can be locked with a small lock.

  3. Step 3

If at any time you feel that your roommate is putting you in danger or is stealing money from you, you need to report it. I once had a roommate who told me she dreamed that she killed me! After that, she was always looking at me weird, and usually was holding sharp scissors while she glared. These things need to be reported.

  4. Step 4

If your roommate situation is just irritating and not completely unlivable, try to stick it out. Dealing with people you don't necessarily love is one of the greatest lessons you can learn in college.
