How to Activate a Verizon Cell Phone Using "My Verizon"

If you've just received a new phone or are activating an old phone this how to will give you instructions on how to activate it using your online account.

Instructions

1. Go to www.verizonwireless.com and log into or register for a My Verizon account.

2. Click the "My Services" tab.

3. Click "My Phone".

4. Click "Activate Phone".

5. Choose the appropriate option:
   For brand new phones with new service or upgrade choose "Activate New Phone" under equipment upgrades.
   For used phones, insurance replacements, or certified like new devices click "Activate Phone" under existing or replacement equipment.

6. Enter the needed info:
   Choose your cell phone #.
   Enter esn/meid #. This can be found by removing the battery and looking on the sticker on the back of the phone. It will either be labeled with esn or meid or start with a000000 or a100000. It could also be an 11 digit number starting with a zero.
   Choose your reason. If your reason isn't there just hit other.
   
   *new equipment only* enter in location code and order number. This can be found on your shipping receipt.

7. Choose submit.
   
   *new equipment only* choose next -- you will be prompted to accept terms and conditions before your activation is complete.

8. Wait 5 minutes then program phone:
   Dial *228 and hit send.
   Choose option 1 to program.
   Listen to hold music till phone says programming successful.
   Power cycle phone (turn off then turn back on).
   * This will only work in digital coverage areas. If you're in an extended network you'll need to call customer service for manual programming
