How to Make Sprint Ringtones

While some may be content with the ringtones Sprint provides its customers, more advanced users may be interested in creating the ringtones themselves. This is possible using a few tools if they are available. However, it does require some knowledge of how to convert a sound file to WAV, if needed, as well as how to edit it to shorten its length.
Compatibility with handsets will vary, so the only reliable way to know if your handset is compatible is to test the process yourself.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

  1. Creating and Uploading the Ringtone

    • 1

Ensure that the desired sound file is in MP3 format. If it is not, it must be converted to the format before continuing. Open editing software such as Audacity to begin the editing process.

    • 2

Shorten the length of the audio file to under 30 seconds, although around 15 seconds would work better for ringtones. The audio quality of the file must also be changed. To play correctly, save the file as a WAV, with quality settings of PCM, mono, 8 kHz and 16-bit.

    • 3

Use Qualcomm's PureVoice converter to further compress the file. This will produce a QCP file that is now ready for use as a ringtone on the Sprint phone.

    • 4

Open the web browser and visit the Moble Phone Uploader website at pcs.cruz-network.net. Toward the bottom of your screen, enter the recipient as your phone's email address. This is either your username@sprintpcs.com or your mobile number without dashes @messaging.sprintpcs.com. Give the ringtone a title, and browse and select the file from the hard drive. Click submit.

    • 5

Click on the link within the received text message, which will download the file. Once it is downloaded, follow the steps given to select it as your ringtone.

    • 6

Test the ringtone to ensure correct playback.

Tips & Warnings

  • The shorter the ringtone the better. Like with official ringtones, its best (and will sound better) if you use the chorus of the song. That way, when it repeats (if need be) it's less jarring.

  • This process may not work with all phones. The Mobile Phone Uploader site does not specify a list of phone models that are compatible, and this entire process is not supported by Sprint itself, so only attempt if you are comfortable with uploading files to your mobile phone.
