How to Two Strand Twist Natural Hair thumbnail
You can style naturally coarse hair in a variety of ways.

Naturally coarse hair was once considered difficult to style, but women with this type of hair are now embracing it rather than using chemical relaxers to straighten their hair or scheduling expensive trips to the salon. There are many creative ways to style naturally coarse hair, including two strand twists. One of the most common and simplest of styles, two strand twists are done by twisting two sections of hair around each other, all over the head. The style is easy to do, but may be time-consuming, depending on the thickness and length of your hair. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Wash and condition your hair as you normally would.

    • 2

Dry your hair with a blow dryer and a paddle brush or comb extension. You can also choose to twist your hair wet if you prefer.

    • 3

Apply moisturizing cream to your hair, which will keep it from becoming overly frizzy.

    • 4

Part your hair into four even sections using a parting comb so that you can easily work with one section at a time.

    • 5

Divide the hair in one section into small sections depending on how thin or thick you want the twists to be.

    • 6

Divide each individual section of hair in two and wrap the strands of hair around each other over and over until they make one long twist. Repeat with the rest of the sections, working with one area of your head until all of your hair is in twists.

    • 7

Sit under a hooded dryer to allow the twists to dry if you twisted your hair wet.

Tips & Warnings

  • When twisting your hair strands, keep your fingers close to the scalp to get a tight twist and keep the hair close to the roots from getting puffy.

  • After wearing your hair in two-strand twists for a few days, untwist your hair and separate the sections to create a curly or wavy, twist-out style.

  • Do not go to bed or lay down while your twists are wet. The wet or damp twists will flatten when laid on. Flattened twists are hard to fix, resulting in you to start from step 1 again.
