Prevent doorknob dents in interior walls

You know how the doorknob hits on an interior wall when you open a door? Well, here is an inexpensive way to cure the problem. This handy little item has a variety of names: wall protector, door shield, wall bumper, or door bumper. It's a self-adhesive circular disk that can be painted or papered, and is made of high impact material. The wall bumper protects the wall surface from doorknob damage, or can be used to cover existing wall damage and provide protection.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Most any hardware store sells door bumpers. You might need to explain to a salesperson that you want to buy something to protect your interior wall from doorknob damage.

  2. Step 2

First you want to gently open the door and locate exactly where the doorknob touches against your interior wall. You can make a mark with a pencil if you desire.

  3. Step 3

Peel the protective cover off the adhesive backing where you will attach the circular disk to the wall.

  4. Step 4

Press the bumper onto the wall where it will be contacted by your doorknob. The foam adhesive on the back of the bumper absorbs shock.

  5. Step 5

If you want the bumper to match the color of your wall, you may put a coat of paint over it. If you have wallpaper, you can also glue a bit of wallpaper over the bumper if desired.

  6. Step 6

If you painted the bumper, wait until the paint is completely dry before any contact is made with the wall.

Tips & Warnings
  • This article describe using a circular paintable disk. However, other kinds of doorknob protection for the wall can be purchased. The circular disk blends in with your wall.
