Things You'll Need:
- Irish Cream
- Creme de Cacao
- Creme de Menthe
-
Step 1
Get to know your local liquor stores. Some stores may carry an off-brand, called Merry's. Merry's makes a mint chocolate Irish cream that can usually be found around the holiday season.
-
Step 2
Price other off-brands of Irish Cream. While they may differ slightly in taste than real Bailey's, they really are quite tasty, and when you add in other flavors, you really cannot tell. Try different varieties to see which cheaper version you like the best and for which you are willing to shell out the cash. Also ask the store employees for their recommendations, based on their personal tastes as well as other customers' opinions.
-
Step 3
Next start looking for cheaper brands of Creme de Menthe and Creme de Cocoa/Cacao. The cocoa is available in regular, white, and dark, depending on the brand. Again, different brands are going to have slightly different tastes. Some brands offer better value for the money. And different brands will tend to have different alcohol contents. Gather opinions from others or have fun experimenting with different tastes on your own.
-
Step 4
Purchase your favored bottles, then prepare for an evening of mixing and tasting.
-
Step 5
For a straight shot, use one of the larger shot glasses. Fill the shot glass about 2/3 - 3/4 of the way with the Irish cream. Top it off with a splash each of the Creme de Menthe and Creme de Cocoa. Toss it back before it has a chance to settle.
-
Step 6
If you prefer your drink to be cold, you can use the same ratio you used for the shot, only in a rocks glass. Shake it to mix it or enjoy the layers.
