Need to lose weight? If you indulged a little over the holidays, you might be wondering how to lose those extra pounds ... preferably as easily as they went on. Luckily, a small change in diet and a little more physical activity will do the trick. If you're sufficiently motivated, there's no better time than now to get started. Here's how to lose weight after the holidays.

  1. Step 1

    Make a specific goal to lose weight and write it down. Include an image, such as a picture of yourself at your desired weight, or the sexy swimsuit you want to wear this summer, with your written goal. Your goal might be in pounds lost, inches shed, or miles walked per week -- it's up to you.

    Remove tempting holiday treats from the house. If you are going to lose weight, you have to nip temptation in the bud. Keep holiday fruit and healthy food snacks such as nuts, but let sugary foods, candy and other sweet edibles go.

    Shop for food that will help you lose weight and eat well. Think whole, natural foods in the form of fresh, local produce, pastured meat, good fats such as olive and coconut oils, and whole grains. Buy ingredients and cook healthy meals, rather than relying on convenience foods or fast food laden with poor fats, salt and chemicals.

    Exercise daily or at least three times a week, even if you start out with slow walks around the neighborhood. Work up your stamina over time by increasing your length and speed and adding weights and other strength training exercise. Pilates or other core-strength workout routines are especially helpful in your quest to lose weight.
