How to Make a Personal Urban Survival Kit

With all the threats in the world, some people do not take it for granted that the comforts of urban life will always be there. Those people think everyone should have a survival plan in place, including a personal urban survival pack. The contents may change according to your circumstances, but there are some basic elements any such pack should contain. Each family member should have his own pack.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert enough food in the pack to last at least a week. The food, which should be changed out periodically, should be items with long shelf lives that can last despite the weather conditions. Dried fruits, granola bars, and canned meat are some of the options. Pack as much bottled water as will fit in the finished case.

    • 2

Place basic medical emergency items such as bandages, scissors, gauze and medicines in a plastic bag. The bag will keep all of the first aid items in one place. Add a small flashlight (with backup batteries), a lighter, and pepper spray. A child may also carry a small roll of toilet paper or a tissue box, and a small metal cup.

A kit for the car, or the whole family, should include 1 gallon of water per person, a multi-tool set, a large flashlight with extra batteries, maps of the city and the surrounding area, a general first-aid kit and a couple of candy bars per person.

Tips & Warnings

  • Each family member must know where the kits are stored and how to get them. The personal kits should be in waterproof cases or backpacks that can stand up to the elements.

I like the personal kit. Going into NY City these would be some excellent things to have on hand. The whistle is excellent. Thank you, I'll make a copy of this.
