This is the basics of scooping urine and feces from a cat litter box. It seems like a simple skill but I have found that most teens are unable to understand its importance. It is basic maintenance of the animal area so the kittens are happy.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Plastic bag
  • Slotted Cat Box Shovel
  • Litter
  • Baking Soda
  • broom and dust pan
  • air freshener

Walk up to the litter box. You will know where it is located by the ammonia smell! Insert shovel into the litter box carefully so your arm doesn't touch the sides.

  2. Step 2

Pick up all clumps of poop and pee. In some litter the areas are blue instead of gray. Sift through the litter for hidden poops and pees. Dump the clumps into the plastic bag. Once you are sure there are no more left in the box, tightly tie the bag closed.

  3. Step 3

Replace missing litter with about 2 tablespoons of baking soda and the rest litter. Stir it up with the shovel and smooth the litter out. Sweep up any litter on the floor area and spray with air freshener.

Tips & Warnings
  • Baking soda helps with odor.
  • Scoop everyday so the kitties have a fresh area.
  • Change the litter completely after a week.
  • Don't do this if pregnant or breastfeeding. Ask your doctor.
