How to Make a Tech Deck Picnic Table
Picnic tables are a mainstay of many skateboarder's repertoire of obstacle-based tricks and thus should be included as a staple obstacle for Tech Deck boarders as well. Tech Deck obstacles can range from a scaled down half pipe to railsets and stairs. Paying for these tiny obstacles seems pointless when many of them can easily be made at home. You can make a Tech Deck picnic table out of easily obtainable materials and this article will show you how to do just that in less than one afternoon. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need
- 24 inch x 24 inch sheet of Balsa Wood
- Jig Saw
- Wood Glue
- Sand Paper
- Your choice of finish
- Pencil
- Ruler
- Pen
- Woodburning tool (optional)
- Craft knife (optional)

Using the picture as a guideline, layout the pieces for the picnic table on a sheet of the Balsa wood. You will need two supports, a right and left seat, and one table top. Use a pencil and a ruler to sketch out the pieces first and then fill in with an ink pen. Try to fit as many pieces on one piece of wood as possible and make sure to minimize the number of surfaces you must cut (example: Layout two flat edges of the table top along the corner of the Balsa wood).

Cut out all of the pieces for the picnic table with the jig saw and sand the edges smooth with the sandpaper. You may also want to sand the tops of the table and seats smooth. You could also add a design to the table top with a wood burner or craft knife (optional) as in the next few steps we will seal the surface.

Glue the two supports wide side up, one inch from the end of the tabletop (lengthwise) with wood glue. Allow to dry for a few minutes before gluing the two seats to either side of the supports lengthwise. Allow the entire table to dry overnight.

Finish by painting all surfaces with your choice of paint or stain or simply adding stickers to mimic full size tables at your favorite skating venue. You can get as fancy or simple as you like here. Let your creative abilities take over and then test the table out.

Tips & Warnings
If you do not have access to a jigsaw, a razor blade used to score the lines of each piece will suffice. This method is more dangerous and should be supervised by an adult.
Paint in a well ventilated area to avoid skin, eye, or lung damage resulting from the fumes.
