AT&T offers a pay as you go cell phone option called Go Phone. The good thing about using the pay as you go option is that you don’t have to worry about credit checks, monthly bills or cell phone deposit. If you’re thinking about choosing an AT&T pay as you go plan, here are a few things to consider.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Consider how much you use the text-messaging feature. AT&T pay as you go offers three text-messaging options. You can select a plan that offers 200, 1,000 or unlimited text messaging. The price ranges from $4.99 to $19.99 depending on the option you choose.

  2. Step 2

Analyze your calling habits. If you use the cell phone infrequently, you might be able to use the .25 per minute cell phone option. This plan is good for people who only use their phone for 6 minutes or less a day. If you’re a bit more chatty, go for AT&T’s Pay as You Go Unlimited Talk plan for .10 per minute and $1 per day on the days you use your phone.

  3. Step 3

Think about the perks. AT&T GoPhone prepaid option allows you to roll over your unused balance and comes with long distance calling nationwide.

  4. Step 4

Select a cell phone. Decide whether you want to save money and purchase a refurbished phone from the AT&T website or a brand new phone. A refurbished phone can save anywhere from 80 to 90% on the price of the phone. A savings like that is worth looking into.
