How to Plan A Fun Circus Theme Party

Set up a tent for your circus party.

Flying trapeze artists, lion tamers and clowns on parade are all captivating scenes for a child. Throw a fun circus theme party if you have a young one with an upcoming birthday. The party brings a touch of her favorite event to home. There are plenty of options from decorations to food items that can reflect a circus theme and dazzle guests in attendance.

Instructions

1. Incorporate common circus items into the invitation whether it's a cutout shape of a tent or pictures of elephants in the circus ring to set the mood for the circus theme for your guests right away.

2. Invite guests to become involved with the theme. Add a fun element that gets the young party guests excited about the event by telling them to come dressed up in a circus-themed costume. Include this on the party invitation and give suggestions like clowns, tigers, trapeze artists and ring masters.

3. Decorate the location of the party with circus-themed decor. Make a ticket sales booth at the front entry where guests can pick up a circus trinket upon entering such as a funny clown nose or flower that squirts water. Hold the party under a tent in the back yard to represent the big top. Arrange the tables in the tent in a circular fashion and make a ring in the center that includes stuffed animals, hula hoops, a balance beam or other similar items.

4. Incorporate the circus theme into the party food. Set up an area modeled after a concession stand. Print out a paper menu that shows the food you'll serve. Include items like hot dogs, personal pizzas and bags of chips. For dessert, serve cookies in the shape of animals or cupcakes with circus themed decorations.

5. Set up an area outside the circus tent for games and circus crafts. Create a beanbag toss that looks like a clown from an old box. Play a game of pin the nose on the clown. Offer prizes like boxes of animal crackers or small finger puppets of circus animals. Have a station where kids can make paper plate clown heads, modeling clay animals or other similar projects.
