Remove PC Tools

PC Tools is an antivirus and spyware removal software program. The program is easy to use and simple to navigate. However, some users find that it causes their system to lag. Others feel that the actual virus scan takes too long to run. Because of its complex nature of finding and quarantining viruses and other malicious software, there are certain steps you need to take to perform a clean uninstall.

Instructions

    • 1

Shut down your computer completely. Turn it back on and log on in "Safe" mode by pressing the "F8" key repeatedly as your system starts until you see the "Safe Mode" option. When you log on, your desktop may look odd, but don't worry. When you restart again it will return to its normal state.

    • 2

Click the "Start" button and choose "Run." Type in "services.msc" without quotes and click "Go." The services list will open. Find "PC Tools Antivirus Engine" in the services list. Right-click it and choose "Stop." Exit the services list.

    • 3

Click the "Start" button and again click on "Run." Type "regedit" into the "Open" box and click "Go." The Registry Editor will open.

    • 4

Expand "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" by selecting the plus sign beside it. Expand the "Software" folder and then expand the "PCTools" folder. Right click "PCTAV" and select "Delete."

    • 5
