Things You'll Need:
- Large pillar candle (or make your own)
- Craft knife or drill
- box with a small lock on it
- small gift
- an old pan or can to melt wax in
-
Step 1
Put your small gift into the box. You can probably find a suitable box at a craft store.
-
Step 2
Lock the box.
-
Step 3
Near the bottom of the big, fat candle, drill a hole and insert the key. You can make your own candle if you like, I would pour a layer about a half an inch or so deep and let it harden a bit, then add the key and finish filling the candle. If you put the key on the very bottom, they might just pry it out.
-
Step 4
Melt the wax that came out of the hole and pour it back in. (This is for if you are using a bought candle instead of making your own.)
-
Step 5
Wrap your gifts up and include instructions. They should tell the recipient that they have to burn the candle up to get to the key. Then they can open the box and get their real present.

on 1/19/2009 This is a really cute idea and may teach patience and then again, it could result in a broken candle. Loved this idea!
