Things You'll Need:
- Sheetrock (big enough to fit the hole)
- Joint tape(Sticky)
- Drywall compound
-
Step 1
Drywall holes can occur for any number of reasons. Over the years homes begin to settle sometimes causing cracks; which can also be fixed.
Began by cutting away the sheetrock, for this you can use a heavy duty box cutter knife.
You will need to remove the sheetrock until you reach the stud on the inside of the wall. Make sure to stay clear of any electrical wires that may also be located inside the wall.
Once you have removed the sheetrock ; measure the hole area and check the Thickness of the existing sheetrock , you will want to replace it with the same thickness for a even fix.
Clean edges; clean up any mess. -
Step 2
Next cut sheetrock to size of hole and fit in, leaving enough room to nail the edges to the stud.
Once it is in place then you are ready to tape it.
With the Joint tape , tape over all seams and any gaps.
Now you are ready to began mudding. Make sure your compound is well mixed.
With spackling knife began to smear the compound over the tape and fill any gaps first and work inward and outward till all is covered.
Don't be afraid to just play with it. You can achieve many different textures.
let dry and add another layer ; making it the same as the existing drywall. let dry.
Should take a few days to fully dry.
You can sand out any rough edges.
Then you can paint it. -
Step 3
Mudding, as it is sometimes called, takes practice and patience. It is a good skill to learn.
