Step 1
Start by making a resolution you are motivated to keep. "I wish I could loose 10 lbs." is not a New Years resolution. Most New Years resolutions are doomed to failure because they are resolutions that you have no intent on keeping.

Step 2
Create a plan to make your resolution a reality. If you can't figure out what needs to be done, start over with a different goal.

Step 3
Recognize up front there will be setbacks. Plan on overcoming at least two obstacles before you are successful. Mentally prepare yourself to persevere. Think ahead of time how big a setback will have to be to prevent you from reaching your goal.

Step 4
Decide how much can be accomplished in the first two weeks and get off to a strong start. Commit to your resolution by doing something every day.
