Teach Your Child Their Numbers
Teach Your Child Their Numbers

Teaching a toddler anything can be a chore, but if you make it fun and a part of your day it doesn't have to be. Your child will be counting in no time.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Make small goals for your child like learning first 1-5. Then learn 1-10. Then 1-20. Make sure it's age appropriate. Your 2 year old shouldn't be expected to know how to count to 100.

  2. Step 2

Go to the library to find some books on counting. Read to your child 3x's a day about counting. Count each one with your child and have them count along with you.

  3. Step 3

Go to a learning store and buy some counting games. An abacus (as pictured) is an excellent thing to help with counting and used later on to help with addition and subtraction for your child.

  4. Step 4

Include counting throughout your day with your child. Have them count all different things. When walking down the stairs count and have them repeat it. The more your child counts, the more they will understand what counting is. It will click.

Tips & Warnings
  • Count pennies, fruit, beads, and beans. Anything you come in contact with.
  • The more your child is asked to count, the faster they will understand it. Help them along.
  • Don't make counting a negative thing. Learning should always be fun.
