Make Homemade Marshmallow Meltaways for Cocoa

These are great gifts. Add these to a basket of homemade food gifts or wrap them in cellophane and tie them to the top of a package with ribbon. They are perfect for adding to hot cocoa or hot chocolate and are easy to make.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Take your peppermint candy and break it into pieces. The easiest way is to place the candy into a towel you are planning on not using again and fold it around the candies. Then take a meat mallet or hammer or heavy bottom pan and smash the candies with it. Place the finished candy in a bowl.

  2. Step 2

Melt the chocolate of your choice; semi-sweet, dark, white, milk... over a double boiler. Do not allow any water to touch the chocolate because this will bind up your chocolate into a solid mass. Chocolate should be melted slowly. When it looks like most of your chocolate has melted, remove the pan from the double boiler and mix till all the chocolate has melted. Place the pan of chocolate over another pan of hot water to keep it from hardening.

  3. Step 3

Line a sheet pan with parchment paper. Take the marshmallows and dip them halfway into the chocolate an let the chocolate drip off for a second. Then push the marshmallows into the candy pieces and roll around to coat. Place the finished marshmallows on the sheet pan to dry.

  4. Step 4

You can leave these as is and wrap or you can place them on sticks for easy stirring in your hot drink of choice.
