Things You'll Need:
- Notebook
- Wall Calendar
-
Step 1
Decide on your path. Do you want to write a novel or become an actress or travel to Tuscany? Get that focused in your mind. Let it become an image in your heart and mind.
-
Step 2
Determine that this pathway is what you want and you will not take anything less. This is not about taking whatever comes your way. We need to exercise our will power for this one. If you need to shut the door on another option that is less than you want, then do it. Life will open a new door, the one you really want., but you have to be determined.
-
Step 3
Work on the steps it takes to start moving down your new path. For example, if you want to publish a novel, you have to start by writing, joining writing groups, reading books in your chosen genre, and establishing a place just for your writing. Write these steps down in your notebook you have started specifically for this journey. Keep a big wall calendar of your commitments, such as a daily time to write, days of “writing group” meetings, etc., and keep those commitments.
-
Step 4
Make some timelines for yourself. When do you want to have your first draft finished? Your final manuscript completed? What about obtaining a literary agent? And finally when do you want it published? Be realistic about the dates but be willing to change them if necessary. Write these down so you feel committed to the timing.
-
Step 5
Surround yourself with people who have accomplished these same goals. Success rubs off on other people. If writers are talking about their next published novel, it certainly is easier for you to envision it for yourself, too. It’s just in the air!
-
Step 6
Focus, focus, focus! If you focus on your chosen path, you become a focus or focal point for Life‘s energy.
