The holidays are the best time to enjoy cookies. They also make for simple gifts to neighbors, teachers and co-workers. This recipe make about 30 cookies.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1/2 c. soft shortening
  • 1/2 c. soften butter
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 3/4 c. flour
  • 2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 3 tsp. sugar
  • 3 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp powdered sugar
  1. Step 1

    Begin by mixing the shortening, butter, sugar and eggs in a large mixing ball. You shouldn't need an electric mixer, can be done by hand.

  2. Step 2

    Stir in the remaining ingredients; flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt. Mix will be thick such as when making bread. will be a dough texture.

  3. Step 3

    In a separate bowl, mix 3 tsp. of sugar and cinnamon, and 1 tsp of powdered sugar. Mix these three which will be the coating.

  4. Step 4

    Roll dough into walnut sized balls (complete 1 at a time) and lightly coat it the sugar/cinnamon mix using a circular motion.

  5. Step 5

    Place about 2 inches apart on an ungreased non-stick cookie sheet. Bake at 400 degrees until lightly brown but still soft, or about 8-10 minutes. Cookies will continue to cook while cooling.

Tips & Warnings
  • Great with milk, egg nog, cocoa or coffee. Enjoy!

on 12/20/2008 Snickerdoodles are one of my families favorite cookies! I just made a batch yesterday and they are gone. These cookies would make a great treat to give to a friend or neighbor.
