Cork your bat for farther distance
Cork your bat for farther distance

This is fairly a simply process. Corking your bat is illegal and unethical in game play, but is perfectly legal to cork your bat for batting practice.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cork or Crazy Balls
  • Glue
  • Wood Filler
  • Fine tipped marker
  • 1/2 inch drill bit
  1. Step 1

To cork your baseball bat, you need to drill a 1/2 - 3/4 inch hole directly in down the center of the top of the bat.

  2. Step 2

It is best to go in about 1 foot. Once this is complete, break up a cork and put its small pieces in the empty hole. You can also cut up a bouncy ball and use this material to cork your bat.

  3. Step 3

Leave about a three inch space from then end of the corking material to the top of the bat. Add about 1 inch of Elmer's white glue or wood glue. Let complete dry.

  4. Step 4

You should still have about 2 inches to fill. Fill this with a wood filler similar in color to the bat. It is best to over fill as it will shrink when dry. It is easier to sand a little mound than fill in a shallow part. Once you have sanded the bat you wanted to cork, take a fine tip mark and draw in the woon grain line. This is very simple.

  5. Step 5

Remember, when you use corked bats, only use this for your own pleasure.

Tips & Warnings
  • Never use one in a game. Once labeled a cheater always a cheater

on 12/24/2008 Not being an avid baseball enthusiast, why do we "cork" the bat in the first place? Call me ignorant. Just curious! 5 star article!
