How to Search for Music

Back in the day you went to the record store to find the music you wanted or needed. You browsed through stacks of (gasp!) albums or CDs to find what it was you were looking for.

Nowadays, music is available online. iTunes, an MP3 application organizer and music store, is there for you to browse through 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days per year.

There's so much music on the iTunes application that an end-user might feel a bit overwhelmed at first. Well, after you read this article, you'll be a whiz at searching for songs and MP3 'albums' on iTunes.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • computer
  • internet access
  • iTunes application
  1. Step 1

    Go to the Apple online store and download the iTunes application. Make sure that your computer has the proper requirements to avoid any problems.

  2. Step 2

    Follow the directions on the computer once the file has downloaded. Run the .exe file and save it file to your hard drive.

  3. Step 3

    Once installation is complete, open up the application.

  4. Step 4

    Use the search function to find the music you enjoy by artist name, genre, album.

  5. Step 5

    Once you locate the music you want, you can listen to a sample or purchase outright.

  6. Step 6

    Follow instructions to download the song to your iTunes music folder, which is usually saved on your computer under My Documents > My Music.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you're using iTunes 8 (the latest current version of the program), you'll need Windows XP service pack 2 or higher or 32-bit version of Vista.
  • Quicktime 7.5.5 or better is also required and is included in the download.
  • There is a version of iTunes for the Mac and one that will work with Window-Eyes 7.0 and above for the visually impaired.
  • iTunes downloads are perfectly legal. You pay for them and Apple handles the licensing.
  • iTunes are not compatible with all mp3 players so be careful to check the specifications before you buy one.
