Step 1
Take off your sneakers when you get home. This reduces the wear you put on the sneaker and cuts down on the dirt you'll track into the house.
-
Step 2
Don't get the sneakers extremely muddy, wet or dirty. Wear an older pair that you don't mind getting battered around when you're doing extreme activities like running and hiking.
-
Step 3
Change the shoelaces when they become too dirty or frayed. It's a simple trick that brightens any pair of shoes.
-
Step 4
Wash the shoes by hand instead of tossing them into the washing machine. Use warm water and a little dishwashing soap and rub clean them with an old wash cloth. Dip the cloth in clean warm water to wash off any remaining soap.
-
Step 5
Use shoe polish on leather sneakers to shine them up. It'll reduce the appearance of scuff marks, dull patches and dirt.
-
Step 6
Put insoles inside the shoes to reduce the amount of foot sweat that the sneakers absorb.
-
Step 7
Remove your sneakers by untying them enough to slip off the shoes without stretching them. Don't remove them by stepping on the back of the heel and tugging your foot out of them without untying them first.
