Bourbon Balls - A Holiday Favorite!
Bourbon Balls - A Holiday Favorite!

This vintage recipe is straight from Grandma's archives. Here's how to make these tasty Bourbon (or rum) Balls without baking or boiling. A Holiday Favorite from Thanksgiving to New Year's, and a great gift idea!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Powdered Sugar
  • Karo's Light Corn Syrup
  • Bourbon (or Rum)
  • Vanilla Wafers
  • Pecans
  • Hershey's Cocoa
  • Waxed Paper
  • Decorative Tins
  1. Step 1

Ingredients: 1 1/4 cup powdered sugar
    1/3 cup bourbon (or rum)
1/4 cup Karo's light corn syrup
2 1/2 cups crushed vanilla wafers
(you can use a food processor or rolling pin to crush)
    3 Tblsp Hershey's cocoa
    1 cup chopped pecans

  2. Step 2

Combine 1 cup sugar, cocoa, pecans and wafers in large bowl. Add in bourbon and corn syrup and mix well.

** Set aside 1/4 cup powdered sugar to use as the outer coating.

  3. Step 3

Form med. size balls by rolling the mixture in your hands (you can dust your hands with powdered sugar to prevent sticking).

Put the remainder 1/4 cup powdered sugar on a separate plate to roll the balls in so they are coated

  4. Step 4

Set finished balls on waxed paper.

Once you have completed the entire batch, line a decorative tin with waxed paper and add in the bourbon balls.
    (makes approx 3 doz balls)

Tips & Warnings
  • Chinese Take Out Boxes are a great alternative to traditional metal tins.
  • You can substitute rum for bourbon, walnuts for pecans -- it's a pretty versatile recipe so have fun and experiment.
  • For a more chocolatey coating - add 1 tblsp of cocoa to the powdered sugar you will be rolling the formed balls in
  • These make a nice Hostess gift for Christmas or New Year
  • Keep in sealed containers - they do dry out. They also "disappear" quickly in large crowds or family gatherings!
