Things You'll Need:
- Computer
- Printer with paper
-
Step 1
Take a look at your keyboard. Depending on the type you have it will either feature a print screen key, labeled "PrtScn," or have the print screen option as a secondary function on one of your other keys, like the delete key. If yours has the latter, push this key and the function key at the same time to get it to work. If you only want to print only the active window, push alt at the same time as you push PrtScn or function and PrtScn.
-
Step 2
Download a screen capture program like Snagit if you want to print partial screen shots. Launch the application and use the rectangle that appears to frame your desired section. Once you pick a section the program will automatically save it and then exit so you can paste it. You'll need to launch it again if you make a mistake.
-
Step 3
Paste your screen copy. When you follow the directions to print the screen, you might think that nothing happened. That's because your machine took a screen shot and added it to your clipboard. It didn't literally send it to your printer. To retrieve your image go to the start menu and click on accessories. Open up the program called Paint. Then go to its edit menu and choose paste or use the keyboard shortcut, control and the letter V.
-
Step 4
Edit your image using the crop tool. Trace the piece of the image you'd like to keep. Then go to the edit menu and choose cut or push control and the letter X. Go to file menu and select new and then paste the cropped piece. Save your image using any format you'd like by using the save as option. Then either print it in Paint by going to edit and then print, or close it and reopen it in another image program and print it from there.
