Long lasting lipstick can make lips feel dry and the lip color can crack, peel, or flake. With just three simple steps, regular lipstick can be transformed into lipstick that lasts for hours.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Lipstick
  • Lip Pencil
  • Tissue
  • Pressed or Loose Powder
  1. Step 1
    Apply Lip Pencil

    Apply Lip Pencil

Apply the lip pencil to dry, clean lips. Outline the entire mouth first, then fill in the lip color with short, lightweight strokes. Choose a color that matches the natural shade of your lips over one that matches the exact color of lipstick.

  2. Step 2
    Apply Lipstick

    Apply Lipstick

Using a lip brush or directly from the tube, apply a single layer of lipstick. A lip brush is helpful for applying darker colors, such as red lipstick or a deep wine lipstick. Blot lightly with a tissue.

  3. Step 3
    Finish the Lipstick Application

    Finish the Lipstick Application

Apply a thin coat of loose or pressed powder to the lips. Avoid using too much powder. The first layer of lipstick should still be somewhat visible after the powder has been applied. Then coat the lips with another thin layer of lipstick.

Tips & Warnings
  • Matte lipstick is more long lasting than sheer lipstick or tinted lip balm.
  • Always use a lip pencil that matches the color of your lips, not the color of the lipstick. That way, when the lipstick fades, your lips remain natural looking.
  • Line on the outer edge of the lip to make your lips appear larger. If you have large lips, line on the inside of the lip to make your lips appear smaller and more balanced.
  • The powder helps to set the lipstick. For even longer wear, repeat steps 1 and 2 one more time before moving to step three.
  • Avoid adding lip gloss over the top of the lipstick. Lip gloss wears off quickly, taking lipstick and lip pencil with it.
