Ducts are located inside homes to help provide clean air. They help prevent mold, but only if they are cleaned out on a regular basis. If you see dust around the duct walls or outside the vents, then it is time to clean the inside of the ducts, which will prevent breathing in dusty air. Starting a duct cleaning business can be profitable, since most households need someone to come in and clean the ducts.

Things You'll Need:

  • Flashlight
  • Brushes
  • Vaccum
  • Ladder
  1. Step 1

Get the right equipment. In order to do the job right, you will need to have a way to clean out the ducts. The vacuum is the most vital. You can use a vacuum that is mounted on a truck or a portable one. Using a portable one is more handy and versatile, while a truck-mounted vacuum has more power. Invest in various brushes as well. Each duct is different from another and will require either a large or small brush.

  2. Step 2

Be educated on ducts. Know everything from the most basic information such as what to look for when a duct needs to be cleaned to the most detailed information such as leakage in a duct and how to fix it.

  3. Step 3

Decide where your duct business will be located. It is best to be near other types of businesses that will complement your duct cleaning business, such as a heating and air conditioning business, a carpet store or a furniture store. These will bring more customers to your type of business. Check out your competition in the area. You do not want to be too close to another duct cleaning business.

  4. Step 4

Offer other services. Offering other types of services along with cleaning ducts will ensure your success as a business. Your main job is cleaning, but offering filtration, deodorizing and sealing ducts will encourage more customers to use your services.

  5. Step 5

Promote your duct cleaning business. Develop pamphlets and place an ad in newspapers in order to get the word out. Create a website and list the services you offer.
