Things You'll Need:
- Passport
- Teaching credentials
-
Step 1
Where do you want to Teach?* FIGURE out WHERE you WANT to TEACH * Do you want to teach in Europe, Asia, South America or anywhere overseas? It will help you to narrow it down, so when you start looking for teaching jobs, you can define it to a specific area.
-
Step 2
Teaching Job* FIGURE out WHAT you WANT to TEACH * Many of the teaching jobs are for English teachers. However, there are jobs for K-12 or university teachers. Decide what route you want to go because the requirements will be different for each position. For information about teaching English, refer to links in Resources.
-
Step 3
* GET your RESUME LOOKING PERFECT * Teaching overseas requires a resume just as if you were getting a job in the states. Many international schools will require some experience, but some may not. The best plan is to have a resume that sells yourself! Put some effort into this and use any resources you find.
-
Step 4
* GET REFERENCES * If you have references, especially in the teaching field, this will help and be sure to use them on applications or resumes. For a job overseas, the school will want as much background on you since most likely all interviews will take place over the phone.
-
Step 5
* LOOK for JOB POSTINGS * There are many websites that have information for teaching jobs overseas. You can start with Transitions Abroad for a lot of information about jobs overseas.
-
Step 6
* NETWORK * Put the word out there that you are looking for a teaching job overseas. Word of mouth can get you that foot in the door.
-
Step 7
Job Fair* GO to JOB FAIRS * This is another great way to find teaching jobs. Some of the fairs require a fee. Have your resume in hand when you attend these job fairs.
-
Step 8
* PREPARE for INTERVIEW * You will have to sell yourself for the job. Prepare questions and do your research ahead of time. The interview can make or break you. No matter how much teaching experience you have, yo have to impress them first.

on 12/18/2008 This is something I have always wanted to do. I may do it in retirement...in Asia...they are so good to their elders over there.
