From Everquest to Runescape to World of Warcraft, there are countless role playing games (RPG) available on the Internet. There are so many out there that it can be difficult to choose which one to play. You definitely don't have time to play them all at once, so consider all your options before deciding in which world you want to fight monsters and make money.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

Think about how much you want to pay for playing. Some of the most elaborate games require not only a monthly subscription fee but also software purchased from gaming or electronics stores. A few online games may be free but will have very little detail or game play. Others have options to start with a free subscription and update later.

  2. Step 2

Choose the theme of the games you like playing. When most people think of role playing games, they think of the fantasy-themed games like World of Warcraft and Everquest. But there are science fiction, martial arts and even cartoon-themed games available online for anyone's enjoyment. The very simple Club Penguin has become a cult classic.

  3. Step 3

Know how much free time you can spend playing online games. If you have the time available, you might be able to play more than one game to satisfy your gaming desires. Sticking to one may be best, though. Online RPGs can be very addicting, and you shouldn't spend all your time in front of the computer.

  4. Step 4

Determine if you're going to play for more than just the game itself. Many people use the mega-multiplayer style games (the MMORPGs) for social gatherings where they meet people and make online friends. If many of your current friends play one game, you may want to join that game so you can all play together.

  5. Step 5

Give as many games as you can a test run before making your final decision. Try the free games first; if you find what you like there, your mission is over quickly. You probably can't try too many pay sites or it will cost a bunch. See if any friends will let you test their accounts first, especially if the game requires extra software you must purchase.

  6. Step 6

Create your own full-time account on the game of your choice. This usually involves inputting a small bit of personal information along with your own user name and password. You'll need a credit card if it's a paid subscription. If the game requires it, purchase the game software and install it on your computer first. Once registered, you'll be given the beginner's guide or online tutorial and ready to enter the online world.

Tips & Warnings
  • Check the memory space available on your computer when making a choice. If you have an older machine that has little RAM available, it will slow most online RPGs down on your computer and will ruin any fun you could have in the game.
