Things You'll Need:
- Pet

Step 1
Put away the Chocolate. We all know that chocolate is toxic to a dog. With all the chocolate around during the holidays, it's easier for Rover to get into this human aphrodiasiac. Keep the chocolate high and away from your pets' reach.
-
Step 2
Keep the fireplace enclosure snug on the fireplace. A small spark could be dangerous to poor ole Spot. Same with lighted candles which are so ever-present during the holidays.
-
Step 3
Cover the tree-stand water. Standing water can become a breeding ground for bacteria. Pets love to drink from these so make sure it is properly covered. Aluminum foil is a good deterrent.
-
Step 4
Pick up after fallen pine needes. If pine needles are swallowed by your pet, they could puncture the intestines.
-
Step 5
Keep the Holly and Mistletoe away from the pets reach. I'm assuming the mistletoe will be out of the pets reach! Anyway, both are toxic to the pet.
-
Step 6
Hide the fruitcake with raisins or raisin cookies away from your dog. Because raisins are highly toxic to dogs, go to the veterinarian immediately if you suspect your dog munched on some raisins.
-
Step 7
Keep macadamia nuts in a safe place. They can cause vomiting, larthargy, and even temporarily paralyze dogs for up to 72 hours.
-
Step 8
Control consumption of Spirits to adult humans. If your dog happens to slurp up some of this fine holiday cheer, including the Egg Nog, he may become disoriented and panicky. While not fatal, why make your dog panicky?
