Bring in the New Year with a green Party!
Bring in the New Year with a green Party!

As the year draws to an end, going green is gathering steam. Make your New Year's Eve party greener by following these eco-friendly tips.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • ingenuity
  • commitment to a greener lifestyle
  1. Step 1

Send out e-vites! – Here’s a no brainer! E-vite sites have festive New Year's themed invitations to choose from, plus most e-vite sites help you keep track of invitees and send out reminder emails.

  2. Step 2

Use soy candles and LED lights for atmosphere at your New Year's Party- Soy candles burn cleaner as they are not petroleum based. LED lights use significantly less energy than incandescent and last longer (up to 10x) than compact fluorescent lights. These are easy ways to green your party.

  3. Step 3

Go simple, go green with your New Year's Party snack food – Avoid processed foods as much as possible. Either make snacks and hors' d'oeuvres yourself, or find a local caterer to make your food fresh. Insist on organic or local grown ingredients, and if serving chocolates and coffee, choose Fair Trade.

  4. Step 4

Looking for confetti and streamers to jazz up your tables? – Shred leftover gift wrap and scissor curl the ribbon!

  5. Step 5

Green noise makers, no problem! – Get the kids involved by using cardboard toilet roll , or paper towel rolls, staple one end, fill tube with a handful of dried beans or rice, staple again and decorate! You can also use empty tins, or small jars as well for your green New Year's Eve noise makers.

  6. Step 6

Need a green game? – How about a white elephant gift exchange where players can “steal” the gift from each other. This has always been a favorite New Year's Eve Party game of my family.....................

I went to a party where the hostess had set up several kids games such as Rockem’ Sockem’ Robots, and Toss Across for adults to play. It was a blast!

  7. Step 7

Make recycling easy for your guests – Set up clearly marked bins for aluminum, glass and plastic. If you compost, be sure to set up a bin for non-meat and dairy food scraps as well

  8. Step 8
Green lifestyle for a greener earth this New Year.

With a little ingenuity, you can think of more green ideas for your New Year's Eve Party! Set a good example for all your guests and make this New Year greener than last.
