    Things You'll Need

    • Star stencils
    • Paint
    • Stencil adhesive spray
    • Paint brush
      • 1

Buy the stencils, brushes and paint. These can be bought at your local craft store. You can also easily make your own stencils by drawing a star on a piece of cardboard. Place the cardboard on top of a cutting mat and cut out the stencil with a craft knife. Make as many different sized stars as you want. Or you can buy a flat sponge, draw a star on it and then cut the star pattern out.

Wipe down the walls. Before you start to paint stars make sure that the walls are clean and free of dust. Do the same if some are going on the ceiling.

      • 3

Shake the can of stencil adhesive spray and lightly spray on the back of the stencil. This makes the stencil stick to the wall and you can reposition the stencil 6 or 7 times before needing to respray it. Duct tape will also work for holding the stencil to the wall. If your child is helping, then stick some stencils down low enough for him to paint.

Put some paint on your brush and fill in the star space from your stencil or you outline the star with a small paint brush first before painting the inside. If you are using a sponge then dip it in some paint, scrape off the excess paint and lightly press to the wall or ceiling. A creative twist would be to paint some stars using glow in the dark paint.

Wait for the paint to dry. If you used glow in the dark paint, then you can admire your handiwork when the lights go off. Your child can drift off to sleep in a room softly aglow with stars.
