Step 1
Book drives in the community. Service groups such as Kiwanis, Rotary and even the Lions have drive to collect books and give them away. This is a great way for books to exchange hands and find you. Contact your local group to see what programs they have to offer and let them know the type of books you are looking for.
-
Step 2
Libraries have free books. Obviously, you can get yourself a free library card and pick up books that interest you into reading about society and life. OR you can check out the free pile. Almost every library has an area where they give away books that were donated but can't be used in the library stacks. These are great books to start your collection.
-
Step 3
If you find yourself wondering where else to look, consider the local church or YMCA. Nonprofits see a lot of donations coming and going, including oodles of books. Start asking and see what great titles start flowing your direction!
-
Step 4
Free books can be found at schools too. At the end of the school year, the schools go through their books to see what to keep and what to donate. These books are from the students, the school library and old classroom materials.
