Find And Figure Your Heart Rate

The heart rate is often used to determine the intensity of a workout. The resting heart rate is also one of the most important indicators of fitness. Follow these steps to find and count your heart rate before, during, and after exercise.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Stop watch
  1. Step 1

Find your pulse by lightly pressing into the soft spot under the jawbone beneath the ear or by feeling at the wrist. Be sure not to get the pulse in the finger mixed up with the pulse in the wrist or neck.

  2. Step 2

While feeling your pulse, watch the seconds on the stopwatch or clock and count the beats for exactly 10 seconds.

  3. Step 3

Multiply by 6 to find the beats per minute. You also can count the beats for 6 seconds and then multiply by 10 (easier math) but the error factor increases.

  4. Step 4
