How to Get the Maria Ending in "Silent Hill 2"
The Playstation 2 survival horror game "Silent Hill 2" takes place in a haunted town where disturbing monsters roam the streets and puts you in control of a man searching for clues about his wife's death. The game has many different endings that you can earn by completing specific objectives or having your main character behave in different ways. The "Maria" ending is the most depressing and has the most horror film overtones as it reveals that the main character is really the killer and is doomed to repeat his actions for all eternity.

Start up a new game and travel from the parking lot into the city of Silent Hill. Do not look at the picture or read the letter that are in your inventory at any point.

Find the woman named Maria in the town's cemetery. Ask her for directions and then quickly go in the direction that she tells you. Pay attention to her directions and do not ask her to repeat them at any time.

Continue through the game until you meet with Maria again and she follows your main character.

Stay close to Maria and quickly kill any monsters that approach her. Do not allow her to be hit or take damage at any time.

Proceed to the ending of the game that takes place in the area called the Nightmare Hotel. Run to the end of the final hallway and turn on the tape recorder lying on the floor. Wait for it to start and then go through the door without listening to the whole recording to receive the "Maria" ending.

Tips & Warnings
Don't immediately use health regeneration items when you are injured but instead wait until the last possible moment before death or you may instead receive the "Leave" ending.
If you listen to the entire tape recording or allow Maria to be hurt by enemies you will get the "Leave" ending instead of the "Maria" ending.
