How to Break in a Catchers Mitt
You are the proud owner of a new catcher's mitt or baseball glove. But it needs to be broken in. What do you do to break it in? Easy. Follow these simple steps.
Instructions

1
Rub glove oil or glove conditioner all over your new baseball mitt. Apply the oil first to the palm of the glove. Then work your way out. Be sure to coat the entire glove, but do not soak it.
-
2
Let the glove dry.
-
-
3
Play catch with the glove for about half an hour a day every day. This will help the glove to mold to the shape of your hand and give you a good fit.
-
4
Rub a light coat of glove oil or conditioner on your glove. Put a softball in the pocket to increase the size of the pocket.
-
5
Use a rubber band (or string) to hold the ball in the closed glove.
-
6
Repeat these steps until the glove is broken in the way you like it.

Tips & Warnings
Once broken in, apply oil or conditioner to your mitt twice a year (and whenever it gets very dirty).
Always use glove oil or conditioner (or shaving cream) on your catcher's mitt or baseball glove. Other oils (such as cooking oils or motor oils) or liquids (such as water) can harm your glove.
