Things You'll Need:
- tv
- internet
- radio
-
Step 1
Before you leave for your trip, whether it is for work or vactaion, check the radio or tv stations. A good Chicago radio station for traffic reports is WBBM 780 or WGN (channel 9). Listen or watch to see noted contruction, detours, or mention of events.
-
Step 2
You can also check the internet at wbbm780.com. A palm pilot can aslo help in identifying any noted issues, including road constuction that may affect traffic.
-
Step 3
Next, plan your route accordingly. If your exit is closed due to construction, you will have to plan an alternative route. Having a plan can decrease stress of being late or lost.
-
Step 4
Plan the appropriate amount of time. If it is snowing heavy, you can expect a trip that usually takes 45 minutes to take over 3 hours. Also remeber that if you parked outside and it snowed, you will need extra time to clean off and warm up your car.
-
Step 5
Have something entertaining planned. You can choose your favorite radio station, cd or a book on cd. Having your mind occupied and having some fun can help deal with being trapped in traffic.
-
Step 6
Remember if you planned well, but get stuck in traffic: You will get there when you get there. Getting upset or angry will not make the cars in front of you move any faster.

on 12/17/2008 I have been to Chicago one time and loved the city. Didn't think the traffic was any worse then here in NJ, but still a great place to go.
